Making the most of your time at Uni
Making the most of your time at Uni
1.Find a church quickly
As a student your time is short. Start looking for a church as soon as you arrive. And set yourself a time limit to find a church. Remember no church is perfect. To help you we have written a guide to finding a church. It contains helpful hints on what to look for in a church and a guide to local churches.
2.Join a Bible study group
There’s no better way to grow as a Christian than through studying God’s word and meeting with other Christians to encourage one another. To find out how you could join a Bible study group click here.
3.Find Christian friends who you can pray with
Why not start meeting regularly with one or two others to pray for each other, your friends & family. Many students have found this a huge source of help & support.
4.Find ways to serve in Church or Christian Union.
Remember you are a brother or sister in the church family not just a guest! Ask your church leaders or CU how you could serve.
5.Read the Bible & pray in your own language
If you are studying in your second language it is easy to think you should always read the Bible and pray in English while you are here. BUT if you do this it is easy to start reading the Bible as an intellectual exercise and to struggle to pray from the heart. When you spend time with God alone speak to him in your own language... When you are reading the Bible with other Christians why not use a bilingual Bible or two Bibles, one in English and one in your own language.
6.Remember God commands us to share the good news about Jesus with people from all nations.
God has brought students from all nations together in your university so remember what God has asked you to do. And remember that Northern Irish people need to hear about Jesus too (there are lots who are not Christians).
7. Learn about Northern Irish culture and customs
Of course the best way to do this is by making friends with Northern Irish people. This can be hard as most Northern Irish students go home for the weekend. So make an effort to talk to families and older people at church, they may well invite you to their home.
